John Herbert Company was founded by Herbert Sandler and business partner “John” in 1954. After a short lived partnership selling office equipment, typewriters, etc., the company transitioned into office furniture/design and was the Hudson Valley’s leading Steelcase dealer for many years. In 1987, following the financial markets crash, Steelcase & Mr. Sandler parted ways, opening the door for a more diversified product offering. This was the beginning of the company’s renewed future, as it grew and gained momentum in the commercial flooring market. Today, John Herbert Company sells all types of soft and hard surface flooring products, primarily to commercial/industrial clients. In addition, the company owns and operates concrete resurfacing/leveling equipment, to insure that installation prep requirements are strictly met, on time and within budget.
Paul Hoffner, M.B.A. NYU’s Stern School of Business 1988, B.A Tufts University 1986. 2nd generation owner of the company, purchased in 1996 from Herbert Sandler, Paul’s step-father.
Patti has been with the company since 1998, where she first managed the company’s accounting department, and later assumed general management, administrative and operational responsibilities. Patti has been an integral part of the company’s success and growth, earning the respect and cooperation of JHC’s staff and clientele alike. Patti is a graduate of Dominican College, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Devin is a Project Manager/Estimator with 10+ years of experience in the commercial flooring industry. He joined John Herbert Company in 2005 shortly after receiving his Bachelor’s in Business from Manhattan College. Devin’s duties include developing of new business, servicing existing clients, pricing, job cost analysis and the general project management. Devin works closely with General Contractors, Architects and end users to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and with appropriate products.
Josh joined John Herbert Company in 2013 as an Assistant Project Estimator/Manager, with 15 years of experience in the construction industry, and quickly grasped his responsibilities, now handling all project estimates for the company. Josh attended SUNY Oneonta, studying Environmental/Urban Planning. Josh is proficient using Callidus estimating software and Microsoft office and has extensive experience estimating projects ranging in size from $5,000.00 to $2 million, for both public and private clients and end users.
Maria has been employed by John Herbert Company for 30 years, soon following her graduation from Newburgh Free Academy High School. As the company’s longest standing employee, Maria is fully informed of the company’s history, capabilities and an invaluable resource. Maria has served as Executive Assistant to the president of the company for most of her career, and is responsible for scheduling all work, customer service, satisfaction and follow-up, and general day to day operations of company.
Fran has been with John Herbert Company for 8 years and performs general administrative support, purchasing of “specials” and expediting orders/deliveries. Fran assists all levels of the organization through a variety of tasks related to customer service, communication, and company moral.
Erika is the company’s newest employee, having joined in late 2013. Erika performs much of the data entry related to purchasing and sales orders, and is assuming additional responsibilities each day. Erika is a graduate from SUNY Geneseo, with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. Using her knowledge and organizational skills, Erika is quickly becoming another company asset helping to grow our business.
Shane joined the company in August 2003 and now leads a team of workers responsible for receiving, warehousing and delivery of all materials/flooring products, along with general construction laborers and concrete restoration functions, including demo, concrete grinding, shot blasting, application of Concrete Moisture Reduction System and Concrete Toppings. Shane quickly gained the respect and cooperation of his coworkers and is a proven leader.
